Sony has quietly made further changes to the internal design of the PS5 Slim. The new revision was discovered by console repair specialist and modder Modyfikator89. Inside, a new EDM-051 motherboard was found, although the console's designation remained the same — CFI-2116.
One of the most notable changes is the CMOS CR2032 battery. In previous versions of the PS5 Slim, replacing it required a significantly more complex console disassembly. In the new design, the battery is much more conveniently located and can be removed and replaced without such deep intervention into the device's internals. A similar solution was already used in the PS5 Pro.
Sony has also once again redesigned the cooling system. The structure around the APU and the protective surface now differ from the previous 2025 revision, and the liquid metal retention system is closer to the approach used in the PS5 Pro. According to Modyfikator89's observations, a smaller surface area directly contacts the liquid metal, which should help to better retain it in the desired area around the processor.
Changes also affected the heatsink: its design and materials used differ from those in previous PS5 Slim versions. However, there are no independent measurements yet to confirm that the new revision indeed runs cooler or quieter.
In addition, Sony changed the internal layout of the board and installed a new implementation of the HDMI retimer. According to the specialist, the new version is cheaper to produce and optimized compared to the previous one. The HDMI retimer is responsible for the stability of the high-speed video signal.
