"The Audience Has Grown Much Older": Warhorse Tired of RPGs About Chosen Heroes

Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima stated that the gaming audience has grown older, and therefore developers should move away from traditional RPGs about chosen heroes and saving the world.

Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima told PC Gamer that he is tired of RPGs where the main character receives a great mission and saves the universe.

I play a lot of RPGs, it's a genre I really enjoy. I'm tired and still get tired of all RPGs where you are the chosen one and have to save the universe. It's essentially hackneyed power fantasies. (...) I've noticed that a lot of people are tired of this formula. There are people who want something different and fresh. And this became the seed from which Kingdom Come grew.
(...) The games being made now are still mostly for teenagers. If you're 16-17, you adore these power fantasies because you need them at that stage of life. But the audience has grown much older now. Everyone will say now that I hate Expedition 33, but that's not true at all.

It seems the third installment will continue the series' course and offer a serious role-playing game without the usual schemes. Kingdom Come 3 is expected to be released around 2027 and 2028.
