High Technologies: Xbox Elite Series 3 Controller to Get Hall Effect Sensor Sticks - Rumor
There will also be a model with Tunnel Magnetoresistance (TMR). These are far from new technologies, but they significantly reduce controller breakage, which causes companies' peripheral sales figures to decline.
Microsoft is working on new Xbox Elite Series 3 controllers that will feature TMR sticks or gamepads with built-in Hall effect sensors. Both technologies use magnetic resistance, which significantly reduces stick wear that leads to drift.
The device allegedly bears the codename Edessa and, according to leaked data, is indeed a new representative of the Elite series, and not another variant of an existing controller.
According to the leak, for the device with Hall effect sensors, options with normal, weakened, and strengthened resistance will be available. TMR sticks, meanwhile, may offer higher sensitivity and likely cost more.
Changes will also affect the haptic feedback system. Configurations allegedly mention Advanced Haptics (VCAs) in addition to the familiar Impulse Triggers. Voice Coil Actuators allow for more diverse and detailed vibration, similar to HD vibration in modern gaming devices.
