In a new episode of the KOJI10 podcast, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding shared his ambiguous attitude towards the new NVIDIA technology. DLSS 5 is capable of transforming 3D character models so that they look almost like real actors. Hideo Kojima is concerned about something else – AI interference in the work of artists.
The reason was materials with an early version of DLSS 5 in Death Stranding 2. Some viewers noted the unnatural appearance of the image and believed that the game did not need such an improvement at all.
Kojima's main complaint is the AI's lack of understanding of context. He compared the situation to the restoration of old films and the remastering of classical music: the algorithm is unable to understand why certain lighting, shadows, or image graininess were chosen. Therefore, automatic improvements can change the emotional message of the work.
Kojima also stated that he would not want anyone to independently modify his games with such tools without the author's control.
