Xbox Movies: Microsoft Launched XP Division to Develop Gaming Franchises Beyond Video Games

Kailin Walters, who previously led Mojang, was appointed head of the division.

Microsoft announced the creation of a new Xbox division called XP, which will focus on developing gaming franchises beyond video games themselves. Its scope will include films and TV series, consumer products, live events, immersive entertainment, as well as partnerships with content creators and brands.

As Xbox notes, separate teams within the company have already been involved in similar areas, but now this activity will be consolidated within a single division.

  • Xbox Pictures — bringing Xbox worlds and characters to film, television, and other forms of linear storytelling
  • Xbox Products — creating merchandise related to popular franchises and aimed at their fans
  • Xbox Places — hosting live events, creating immersive entertainment, attractions, broadcasts, and themed spaces
  • Xbox Partnerships — collaborating with creators, brands, and communities to create new projects, sponsorship programs, and other partnerships
