Perfect Dark Gameplay from Xbox Appears Online

The canceled Perfect Dark could have been one of Xbox's biggest games this generation - over two minutes of new gameplay footage from the project have leaked online.

New footage from Perfect Dark was published by the Mp1st portal: it shows new locations, the world traversal system, and fragments of battles with various weapons. The material belongs to a VFX artist who worked on various game projects. The recording was obtained through their own investigation and was not provided to the editorial office by the developer or anyone from The Initiative.

The gameplay demonstrates a relatively early stage of development. According to Mp1st, since April 2025, The Initiative had been working on the first “vertical slice” — a playable segment that was supposed to show the target quality and key features of the game. Perfect Dark was intended to have an episodic structure.

Earlier, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg reported that Take-Two discussed with Microsoft and Embracer the financing of further development. The parties failed to reach an agreement, after which Perfect Dark was canceled. In July 2025, Microsoft closed The Initiative as part of a restructuring.
