Hollywood is even adapting cookies - a feature film is being prepared based on CookieRun

The adaptation is planned to be released for the twentieth anniversary of the first game in the series.

Big Shot Pictures has acquired an option for the rights to a feature film adaptation of CookieRun — a gaming franchise from the South Korean company Devsisters. The developers will participate in defining the creative direction of the film, while Big Shot will lead its production.

Devsisters CEO Cho Gil-hyun spoke about what the company expects from the film:

“CookieRun started as a mobile game and has since expanded into new territories — from merchandise and collectible cards to live events. At the heart of it all is a meticulously crafted dessert world, inhabited by cookies that break free from the oven to choose their own destiny. Bringing this world to the big screen expands the possibilities of CookieRun in a way no other format can. We hope it will allow long-time fans to encounter the characters they grew up with in a new way, and give new viewers a story of courage that will stay with them.”

The global premiere is planned for 2029, coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of the first game in the series. The plot, adaptation format, and production team are currently being kept under wraps.

CookieRun is inspired by the gingerbread man fairy tale. Over the years, the franchise has grown with games of various genres, including CookieRun: Kingdom, OvenBreak, and Crumble, as well as its own collectible card game — the series' games have been downloaded over 300 million times in total. For the anniversary year 2029, Devsisters has also scheduled the release of CookieRun: NewWorld — an open-world adventure for PC, consoles, and smartphones.
