According to Variety, "WandaVision" and "Agatha All Along" creator Jac Schaeffer is developing a new series in the "Stargate" universe for Amazon MGM Studios. The project is part of an overall deal the writer signed with the studio earlier this year. A writers' room is expected to be assembled soon, with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures serving as executive producers alongside Schaeffer.
This is Amazon's second attempt to bring "Stargate" back to screens. Previously, franchise veteran Martin Gero was working on a new series, but his project was canceled in June 2026. As Variety reported at the time, Amazon management considered his proposed version too "niche," fearing that a series that carefully preserved the canon of the original shows would only appeal to dedicated fans and not attract a wider audience.
Later, consulting producer Joe Mallozzi disputed this version of events, stating that the creators had aimed for a broad audience from the very beginning. However, Amazon's management apparently had a different opinion.
Details of the new series' plot, cast, and release dates have not yet been disclosed.
