Nicolas Cage seems to have confirmed his participation in the fifth season of "True Detective" without waiting for an official announcement from HBO. At his panel at New York Comic-Con, the actor said that he wants to appear in fewer films and pay more attention to TV series:
"You can't endlessly make film after film. So, I think I'll probably do one more season of a TV show. I think it might be a season of "True Detective." My agent is out there listening to me right now. It's okay that I'm announcing it first, right?"
Cage's words confirm rumors that have been circulating since August 2025. At that time, insiders, and then a number of media outlets, reported on negotiations with the actor regarding participation in the fifth season of the detective series. HBO has not yet officially confirmed his appearance, but after Cage's own statement, there is much less doubt about it.
The fifth season of "True Detective" is being developed by Issa López, who was responsible for the fourth season "Night Country" starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. There are few details yet: it is only known that the action will take place in the Jamaica Bay area in New York, and the premiere is scheduled for 2027.
