The Transformers franchise is going through a tough time: "Bumblebee" and "Rise of the Beasts" failed to replicate the box office success of the earlier installments, which Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg worked on. Now Paramount hopes to restore the series to its former glory with the help of its original team.
According to Deadline, Spielberg will take on a more active creative role in the next film. He will oversee all creative aspects of the project alongside long-time series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and will retain his position as executive producer.
In addition, Michael Bay may return to the director's chair. The director of the first five "Transformers" films has already read the script and met with Spielberg, after which he expressed his readiness to work on the franchise again. He is currently in preliminary negotiations – a deal has not yet been concluded.
The new film will be the eighth live-action movie in the series. The script was written by Jason Fuchs, who worked on "Wonder Woman" and "Argylle". The action will take place in the present day, but plot details, cast, and premiere date have not yet been revealed.
