Unexpected Price Increase in PlayStation Store. Gamers Fear Sony Will Raise Prices Worldwide

Games from various publishers and virtual currency have unexpectedly become more expensive in the South Korean PlayStation Store. Even the local Sony division has not yet been able to explain the reasons for the changes.

The price of Elden Ring increased the most – from 64,800 to 79,800 won (approximately from $44 to $54), which is a 23% increase. Both parts of Nioh Remastered, Remnant 2, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, and Nine Sols also became more expensive. Depending on the game, the increase ranged from 2,000 to 15,000 won (from $1.35 to $10.15).

The changes also affected microtransactions: a set of 5750 Caliber units in The First Descendant now costs 129,800 instead of 109,800 won ($88 instead of $74). Similar changes were noticed in Genshin Impact.

According to GameMeca, Sony Korea has requested clarification from the head office. A representative of one of the publishers suggested that the company is adjusting prices to account for exchange rates, although partners were not warned in advance.

At the same time, Sony's own games, including Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War, have retained their previous prices. There is no confirmation yet that the increase will affect other regions: the changes may remain local.
