New Generation of Soulslikes. Valor Mortis Received High Ratings
Valor Mortis received an average score of 80% from critics on Opencritic: reviewers praise the bosses, the atmosphere of Napoleonic Europe with bio-horror, and parkour.
Valor Mortis from the creators of Ghostrunner received high critical acclaim: the game's average score on Opencritic is 80% after 45 reviews.
One More Level studio decided to combine challenging soulslike battles with a first-person perspective. Journalists appreciated the fresh approach, atmosphere, and combat system, comparing the game to Sekiro, BioShock, and Ghostrunner.
Boss battles are particularly praised, requiring precise parries and skillful use of weapons and supernatural abilities. An alternative Napoleonic-era Europe with elements of biological horror also impressed critics. Exploration and parkour are also noted as strengths.
Among the drawbacks are issues with enemy AI, difficulty spikes, repetitive enemies, and technical errors. The first-person perspective sometimes hinders judging distance and choosing the right moment to parry.

Despite the shortcomings, some reviewers call Valor Mortis a new step in the evolution of the soulslike genre.
