Star Wars: Galactic Racer Developer Criticizes Constant Rewards in Racing Games
Star Wars: Galactic Racer will challenge players more often, as constant rewards lose their effect over time, according to Fuse Games head Matt Webster.
In an interview, Fuse Games head Matt Webster cited the Burnout series as an example, where players were constantly rewarded with new cars and other prizes.
Games should challenge players. In Burnout, you were constantly showered with rewards: a dopamine rush, a reward, a reward, a car, a car, a car! Eventually, if it all comes down to the same thing, you stop noticing it.
In Star Wars: Galactic Racer, the studio wants to make even a fifth-place finish a source of pride after a tough race. At the same time, the game alternates intense races with calmer moments, allowing players to immerse themselves in the Star Wars atmosphere.
Earlier, Webster noted that modern players are capable of handling a greater cognitive load. Therefore, racers will have to monitor accelerators and ability cooldowns, as well as fix malfunctions at speeds up to 700 km/h.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer has been released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
