Xbox will not survive without new game franchises, said Asha Sharma

You can't endlessly rely on old series and exploit nostalgia.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma stated that Microsoft will continue to develop new game franchises, despite massive layoffs and a focus on strengthening existing brands. According to her, the company cannot rely solely on old series and must find the courage to create new projects capable of attracting new audiences.

Sharma spoke about this during an internal Xbox Town Hall meeting held last week. She confirmed that the company intends to focus on its most successful franchises, but emphasized the importance of creating new intellectual property.

We support our strongest franchises. I want our great games to become global brands with billions in revenue. But I would also like us to continue creating new intellectual property designed for long-term development. We will not survive if we only return to past successes. We need to find new approaches and be bold in creating new franchises that can attract new audiences.

During the meeting, Sharma also touched upon the development of mobile and casual gaming, particularly the King business. According to her, the company still has opportunities for growth in this segment, despite increasing competition. In recent years, games like Monopoly Go and Block Blast have been drawing some of the audience away from Candy Crush.
