"It Was Disgusting": Ben Affleck Revealed What Was Happening on the Set of "Justice League"

The actor who played Batman accused the studio of a cynical attitude towards the situation surrounding Zack Snyder's departure.

Ben Affleck, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, called the reshoots of "Justice League" one of the worst moments of his career. The actor admitted that working on the film made him lose the desire to direct a solo Dark Knight movie, although he was initially enthusiastic about the idea:

"Working on 'Justice League' left a very, very unpleasant impression for various reasons. Partly because of what was happening in my life, partly because of the tragedy that occurred during that period. In addition, I saw how not to make such films: when the studio conflicts with the director, it's a huge mistake. This is what ruined the picture."

During the production of "Justice League," Zack Snyder had disagreements with Warner Bros. regarding the creative direction of the film. In March 2017, his daughter passed away, and in May, the director announced his departure from the project. The studio then assured that Joss Whedon would only complete the film, preserving Snyder's original vision. However, the film ultimately underwent extensive reshoots that significantly altered its plot and tone.

According to Affleck, after the change of director, the atmosphere on set became extremely difficult. At the same time, the actor believes that Warner Bros. acted disgustingly, using Snyder's family tragedy as a pretext to remove him from the project:

"The way it was, in my opinion, used as an excuse, is one of the nastiest things I've ever seen. It was disgusting."

In 2021, Snyder released a four-hour director's cut of "Justice League." Affleck spoke positively about it and admitted that he was happy for the director, who finally managed to show the film as he intended:

"I was very happy that Zack was able to release his version. [...] I was very happy for him."
