The Truth Is Out There Again: The X-Files Officially Returns

Ryan Coogler and original series creator Chris Carter are working on the reboot.

Hulu has ordered a full season of new X-Files from Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther and Sinners. According to the plot, two experienced FBI agents with completely different personalities are assigned to a long-closed department that investigated unexplained phenomena. Despite their disagreements, working together gradually brings the partners closer.

Jennifer Yale will serve as showrunner for the reboot. Coogler wrote the pilot episode and filmed it before July 2026, after which the project awaited Hulu's approval. It is currently unknown whether the director will work on the remaining episodes, but he will remain an executive producer alongside Chris Carter, the creator of the original X-Files.

The main roles will be played by Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who previously starred together in Station Eleven. The cast also includes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, and Dever Jacobs. It is currently unknown whether David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will appear in the new X-Files. Both actors previously expressed willingness to return if offered suitable roles, but their participation has not been officially confirmed.

The premiere date for the reboot has not yet been announced.
