The End Is Near: "House of the Dragon" Star Reveals When Filming for the Final Season Will Begin
The "Game of Thrones" prequel is entering its final stretch.
Gayle Rankin, who plays Alys Rivers in "House of the Dragon," told The Direct in an interview that filming for the fourth and final season of the series will begin in early 2027. The actress also confirmed that she will return to her role but did not reveal plot details.
The final season will conclude the story of the Targaryen civil war. Back in August, showrunner Ryan Condal said that the creators had already determined the overall structure of the finale, and HBO had received a draft script for the first episode. At that time, he also promised that the fourth season would surpass the third in scale: viewers can expect new characters, dragons, and locations.
"The ability to tell a story, to write its ending ourselves, and to decide where and when it ends, is a great privilege. In the television industry, such freedom is not always found. Therefore, we are returning to work with great enthusiasm. New characters, dragons, and locations are ahead, which, I hope, will make the final season a worthy conclusion to the series."
The premiere of the final season of "House of the Dragon" is scheduled for 2028, presumably in the summer. The exact release date has not yet been announced.
