An enthusiast is working on an unofficial PC port of The Last Guardian, which allows the original game code to run directly on a computer without full console emulation. The project is still in its early stages of development, but the author has already managed to get the game running from the main menu to gameplay and has implemented full sound playback.
According to the developer, the game runs at 1080p resolution with an unlocked frame rate. On a system with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X processor, performance during gameplay is approximately 60–75 fps. The menu, however, can run at up to 120 frames per second.
One of the main technical challenges was the audio system. The developer had to independently recreate Ngs2 — Sony's sound engine responsible for audio processing and mixing. Currently, music, dialogues, Trico's sounds, and character footsteps are working in the game.
For the graphical component of the project, shadPS4 code is used, adapting PlayStation 4 graphics commands to work via Vulkan. In addition, the author created his own implementations of the console's system libraries, necessary for running the game on PC.
The developer also said that he used Claude Opus as a programming assistant when creating the project. The neural network wrote part of the code under his guidance, while testing and making technical decisions remained with the author.
