World of Warcraft ported to Android - the iconic MMORPG runs on smartphones at 60 FPS

An enthusiast has fulfilled a long-held dream of some fans of Blizzard's MMORPG.

A developer known as jaredgei has released WoW Forever for Android — an unofficial launcher that allows running the beta version of World of Warcraft: Forever on smartphones and portable consoles running Android. The project uses the original Blizzard client, and the game itself runs directly on the device.

The author demonstrated the game running on an AYN Thor portable console with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. According to him, both devices achieved around 60 FPS in sparsely populated areas, although in busy cities, the frame rate drops to about 40 FPS.

The launcher supports touch controls, gamepads, and downloading updates directly on the device. To run it, you will need Android 10 or newer, a Snapdragon 8-series processor with Adreno 7xx or 8xx graphics, and a Battle.net account with access to the beta testing, which will last until October 21.
