Critics are once again unhappy with the fighting game adaptation - the first reviews for "Street Fighter" have appeared
Journalists shared their opinions on the new attempt to bring Street Fighter to the big screen.
The first reviews for "Street Fighter" have appeared — a new adaptation of Street Fighter directed by Kitao Sakurai. At the time of publication, the film has 41% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes based on 49 reviews and a score of 46 on Metacritic after 20 reviews.

Judging by the ratings, critics did not reach a consensus. Some criticize the film for its forced humor and disjointed narrative, while others are willing to forgive these shortcomings for the sake of its vibrant visual style, energy, and faithfulness to the spirit of the games. However, complaints about the chaotic script appear even in positive reviews, and Kallin Liang as Chun-Li is praised even by authors of negative reviews.
"It would seem that a Street Fighter movie, good or bad, should at least offer simple but engaging hand-to-hand combat. However, the plot is so chaotic, and the concept so disorganized, that a six-button game seems like a work of art in comparison."
"A truly loud, exhausting, agonizing, bloated, and embarrassing mess. The film tries its best to be funny, crazy, and kitschy, but fails miserably. The project deservedly should collect all the Golden Raspberry awards."
"The plot in such a movie is far from the main thing. The best it can do is get out of the way and let us enjoy the spectacle. But this is where Street Fighter stumbles, constantly distracting from the action with a disjointed narrative."
Those who liked the film urge not to take it too seriously. In their opinion, behind the deliberate silliness, one can easily discern an entertaining movie that finally brought Street Fighter to the screen in a worthy manner.
"Street Fighter is a defiantly silly movie that is well aware of its own silliness. At the same time, it's very funny, and at times even glimpses of real emotions appear. And this is the best Street Fighter adaptation to date."
"It can easily be called the best fighting game adaptation to date. The bar, of course, was not high, but Street Fighter copes with its task."
According to the plot, Ryu and Ken Masters, whose paths diverged long ago, return to fighting when the mysterious Chun-Li invites them to another World Warrior tournament. However, behind the competition lies a conspiracy by M. Bison, which will force the heroes to confront not only each other but also the demons from their own past.
To present the full diversity of fighters, the creators assembled an impressive cast: Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), Kallina Liang (Chun-Li), Jason Momoa (Blanka), David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), Cody Rhodes (Guile), Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (Balrog), Roman Reigns (Akuma), Orville Peck (Vega), Olivier Richters (Zangief), Vidyut Jammwal (Dhalsim), Hirooki Goto (Edmond Honda), and Melanie Jarnson (Cammy).
