Priest Believes It's Better to Play GTA VI Than to Get Drunk and Fight

News

In some cases, playing GTA VI is not such a bad idea.

After the release of the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, many once again began actively discussing the new installment of the franchise. A priest also spoke about it on the air of "Radio Sputnik".

One of the listeners asked, "Is it permissible for a Christian to play games like GTA VI?" Pavel Ostrovsky recalled the words of the Apostle Paul:

It's not about any specific games or anything else. It seems to me that such categorical statements provoke criticism not because the person who made them is bad or doesn't understand something, but because there are well-known delicate words of the Apostle Paul that answer all such questions. The Apostle Paul wrote: "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable," "All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."

According to Ostrovsky, this shows that each person, "guided by these wonderful words of the Apostle Paul," can determine what is beneficial or harmful to them at a particular moment in life.

As an example, Pavel Ostrovsky suggested imagining a person who yesterday constantly gambled on sports, fought, drank, and so on, and now decides to change their lifestyle:

And so [such a person] decided to embark on the right path: started reading smart books and so on. But, to get away from bad company and bad pastime, he started playing computer games. Given where he was yesterday and what he is doing today, this will be good for him. It's better to sit at the computer than to drink and fight in the street.

There is a nuance: the release of Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles for now. Nevertheless, other parts of the franchise and many other projects are available on PC.
