The online game Need for Speed (2015) will become an offline game, but not thanks to Electronic Arts - the game has already been untied from EA App
The game will continue to work even without official servers.
Electronic Arts has experimented with the Need for Speed franchise for many years. One of the results was the 2015 NFS, which they decided to fully tie to online play. This did not please some fans of the franchise, and they decided to preserve this installment themselves.
Recently, thanks to AI technologies, a project called "afterhours 2015" emerged (modders listed the artificial intelligence "Claude" among the developers who contributed to the project). This is a server emulator for Need for Speed (2015) that will allow players to continue playing even when Electronic Arts decides to shut down the official servers:
Components are added gradually — as they are tested. We include a standalone server and the nfs-afterhours launcher in the archive. The launcher prepares content from the installed game of the supported version, creates an independent local account, and starts the server on any platform, and on Windows OS also launches the game and redirects its connections to this server.
The creators of the "afterhours 2015" project have already implemented a number of features: local account, free roam; return from the open world to the garage; some tuning elements; progress is partially saved.
The source code for the "afterhours-2015" project was published by the afterhours-crew team on GitHub.
