In 2027, Activision will launch a new Call of Duty sub-series

Activision's last attempt to launch a new sub-series was Call of Duty: Vanguard, released in 2021.

Activision has confirmed that the next installment of Call of Duty, scheduled for 2027, will mark the beginning of an entirely new sub-series within the franchise. The game will not be part of either Modern Warfare or Black Ops. This was revealed by Activision's Marketing Director, Tyler Ball, in an interview with The Game Business.

We have already stated that one of the upcoming games will be the start of a new sub-series, and we have already laid the groundwork for it.

On October 23, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be released, which is expected to conclude another chapter of the Modern Warfare sub-series. It was preceded by Black Ops 7, released in 2025, which became the seventh main game in the Black Ops line.

Earlier, Activision announced its decision to abandon releasing two consecutive games within the same sub-series. This decision followed negative community reactions to the sequential releases of Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, as well as Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7.

We have openly discussed that releasing Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 consecutively, as well as Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, is not what our community wanted.

According to rumors, the events of the upcoming game will take place in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The project will feature a new setting and an entirely new cast of characters.
