Denuvo received permission to unmask voices38 via Discord, Steam, and Reddit

Denuvo has been granted permission to issue subpoenas to Discord, Valve, and Reddit to identify an unknown game crack developer known by the pseudonym voices38.

The proceedings are related to a lawsuit for violating provisions of the US copyright law aimed at circumventing technical copyright protection measures. Irdeto, which owns Denuvo, filed it in September 2026. In the initial filing, the defendant was only identified by the pseudonym voices38. To identify him, the plaintiff indicated Discord and Reddit accounts, as well as seven Steam profiles.

Valve was supposed to provide information on payment methods, purchase history, IP addresses with timestamps, device identifiers, and associated accounts. Discord was also asked to disclose information about the servers the user was a member of, and Reddit to provide post and comment history.

On October 8, the judge demanded an explanation as to why such a large amount of information was needed to identify the defendant. In his opinion, the initial requests went beyond what was necessary and could create significant risks to user privacy.

Instead of justifying each point, the company decided to revise the subpoenas and narrow down the requirements. As a result, the number of requests was reduced from 46 to 9: one for Discord and Reddit, and seven more for individual Steam profiles.

Denuvo is now requesting:

• first and last names;
• identification documents, if available;
• email addresses;
• IP addresses;
• phone numbers;
• home and work addresses.

Information on payments and transactions, account login logs, as well as user posts and comments were excluded from the updated requests.

The deadline for providing the information is November 3, 2026.
