Gears of War: E-Day criticized for new heroes. Former producer explained what went wrong
Laura Fryer criticized the script of Gears of War: E-Day for The Coalition studio focusing too much on new characters.
Former Gears of War producer Laura Fryer criticized the script of Gears of War: E-Day for excessive focus on new characters at the expense of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago's story.
Despite good gameplay reviews, Fryer believes that The Coalition studio made a mistake with the plot emphasis. The game was supposed to bring the series back to its roots and show the beginning of the Locust invasion, as well as the genesis of the friendship between the two main characters.
According to the producer, the scriptwriters devoted too much time to new characters, especially the controversial Mags Carter. Fryer believes that fans were waiting for an emotional story of Marcus and Dom on the most terrible day in the history of their planet, not an introduction to new heroes.
As a result, she says, classic characters have been relegated to the background, and the atmosphere of the early parts of the series has been diluted. Disputes around Mags have already divided the gaming community, and Fryer's criticism only added fuel to the fire. At the same time, shooting and battles with the Locust remain the strong points of the game.
