18 years after its announcement, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in pre-production

Full production is still a long way off.

Fans of Beyond Good & Evil 2 will likely need to be patient. According to new material from the French publication Origami, the sequel is still in development, but full production is still a long way off. The information was obtained through conversations with several people familiar with the game's creation process. Some of the information is also confirmed by Insider Gaming.

In January 2026, the director of Beyond Good & Evil 2 reiterated that the project was not affected by changes that could jeopardize it. This information was later confirmed by the writer of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, who stated that development was ongoing.

According to the Origami report, the game is still in the preliminary development — pre-production — phase. At Ubisoft Montpellier alone, at least 250 people are working on the project.

The material notes that the team aims to prepare the game for the alpha stage, and the main immediate goal is to pass an internal approval stage that will allow them to move to full production.

Work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been ongoing since 2008.
