The reboot of "Masters of the Universe" was released in cinemas in early June and flopped at the box office, grossing $114 million worldwide against a production budget of $170-200 million. At the time, MGM's head of US theatrical distribution, Kevin Wilson, called the result a "solid start" and spoke of betting on the film's long life beyond cinemas. And it seems the calculation paid off: after its release on Prime Video on July 22, the film topped the platform's most popular movie ranking for five consecutive weeks.
Amidst the streaming success, ScreenRant asked director Travis Knight if he was ready to shoot a sequel. The filmmaker admitted that he would gladly return to He-Man's story, but the final decision rests with the studio:
"Making this film was a huge joy, I really enjoyed working with this team. We had so much fun, and I think you can feel that when you watch it. Of course, you imagine how the characters' lives will unfold after the ending. And if the universe in its wisdom offers us to make a sequel, we will gladly accept. But ultimately, such decisions are not up to us."
The creators already have a setup for a second part. In the post-credits scenes, viewers were introduced to Adora, Adam's twin sister and future She-Ra, and there was also a hint at Skeletor's return. However, a sequel to "Masters of the Universe" has not yet been officially announced.
