Lawrence Makoare, who played several antagonists in "The Lord of the Rings," has joined the cast of "The Hunt for Gollum." He revealed this while explaining why he would not be able to attend the Armageddon Expo festival in Auckland:
"Unfortunately, I will be finishing work on 'The Hunt for Gollum' in Wellington this weekend."
It is not yet known who Makoare will play this time. In "The Fellowship of the Ring," he portrayed Lurtz, the Uruk-hai leader who fatally wounded Boromir. And in "The Return of the King," he appeared in two roles: the Witch-king and the Orc warlord Gothmog.
Andy Serkis is directing "The Hunt for Gollum," and will also return to the titular role. The film's events will unfold before the main events of "The Fellowship of the Ring" and will tell the story of Aragorn's search for Gollum, as he tries to prevent information about the Ring from falling into Sauron's hands.
Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will also return to their roles as Gandalf and Frodo. The premiere of "The Hunt for Gollum" is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
