Writer Pierce Brown shared details about the work on the film adaptation of "Red Rising." At a meeting with readers in the UK, he admitted that he had been looking for a team he could trust with his books for a long time:
"I could stand my ground and say, 'I'm not making a movie until I find a team that feels like family.' I wanted to do it with those kinds of people because I realized how important the family you choose yourself is. With Francis Lawrence, the director I'm working with now, we've been friends for eight years. We tried for five years to turn this story into a series, then we stepped back, and I said, 'No more meetings.' And then another person joined our family, then another."
Brown and his team took Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy as a benchmark. The writer explained what he likes about the director's approach:
"They all believe that the best adaptation is Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings." I think it's because he's not trying to promote himself, gain fame, or get rich. He's trying to do justice to a story that helped him through the difficulties of his youth. He's in love with what "The Lord of the Rings" means to him personally."
Brown hopes that they will achieve a similar result with "Red Rising":
"I hope we can do the same. We've done everything we could for it. I didn't move to Los Angeles because I love sunny weather. I moved to find the right people, and over the years of working on the series, I succeeded. So, if we mess it up, it means we have bad taste."
The action of "Red Rising" takes place in a future where humanity is divided into color castes. Miner Darrow learns that his people have been deceived and infiltrates the society of the ruling elite to destroy the system from within.
Paramount acquired the film rights. Francis Lawrence will direct, and Justin Rhodes will write the screenplay. The premiere date and cast have not yet been announced.
