James Gunn Can Celebrate Victory: "Clayface" Had an Unexpectedly Strong Start in Cinemas

Initial results give the studio reason to hope for a successful run.

The horror film "Clayface" earned approximately $43 million in worldwide box office during its debut weekend. Of this amount, $24 million came from the US and Canada, allowing the film to take first place in the domestic box office, while another $19 million came from international markets.

For DC Studios, this is an especially encouraging start given the film's relatively small budget. According to Variety, production cost $44 million, meaning that in its first weekend, the film grossed almost as much as it cost to make. However, it is still far from breaking even, as a portion of ticket sales revenue is taken by cinemas, and marketing expenses remain unknown.

The upcoming Halloween, when interest in horror films traditionally increases, could help "Clayface" maintain its good pace. Moreover, the film has been well-received by both critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has 75% positive reviews and 94% audience scores, which also gives hope for successful subsequent weeks of its run.
