The new Street Fighter film had a successful opening, earning $30.8 million in the US and Canada during its first weekend and taking the top spot. However, in its second week, "Street Fighter" lost most of its audience. Over the weekend of October 23-25, the film grossed approximately $8.6 million — a 72.1% drop from the previous week.
The film fell from first to fourth place, even though the number of cinemas remained the same — 3575. Ahead of it were "Clayface," A24's documentary You Can See Everything about Elizabeth Holmes, and LAIKA's "Witch's Forest."
Such a sharp decline may indicate that the initial box office was driven by franchise fans who rushed to cinemas for the premiere. However, the film seems to have failed to attract a wider audience.
In ten days, domestic box office reached $46.9 million, and worldwide box office reached $79.6 million. With a production budget of $82 million, the film is still far from breaking even: the studios will only receive a portion of the ticket sales revenue, and advertising costs should also be considered.
