“It's too brutal”: Capcom demanded a shocking Chun-Li scene be cut from Street Fighter

Not all ideas from the creators of the Street Fighter adaptation were approved by Capcom.

Callina Liang, who played Chun-Li in the new Street Fighter adaptation, shared details about a scene that the filmmakers had to change at Capcom's request:

“Initially, Chun-Li was supposed to cut off her own finger, but Capcom… The script was discussed and reworked multiple times, and they ultimately decided that a brand on her arm would be a better option. If she were missing a pinky finger throughout the entire potential film franchise, it would somehow distort the character's image.”

Liang also shared her thoughts on the movie's ending. Without revealing spoilers, the actress admitted she was somewhat disappointed by the finale, but hopes the screenwriters had their reasons and that the story will be continued.

However, whether that will happen remains a big question. The box office numbers for Street Fighter look disappointing, although, according to Olivier Richters, who played Zangief, all the actors signed contracts for three movies at once.
