The cult shooter MDK by Shiny Entertainment has received an unofficial Android version. An enthusiast going by the handle nautilusbits released the MDK-SDL project, making it possible to once again embark on an adventure with Kurt Hectic right on a smartphone.
The mobile version includes all the content of the original, including cutscenes, and supports touch controls and gamepads. You can play with either the original graphics or enhanced visuals thanks to PC mods that introduce new lighting, shadows, and anti-aliasing. There is even a virtual reality mode for headsets like Google Cardboard featuring head tracking, although a controller will be required for gameplay in that case.
In the latest update from October 25, the developer improved compatibility with Mali-G52 graphics and similar GPUs, and also fixed several bugs that hindered Kurt from navigating through the levels. That said, touch controls still require refinement: users in the comments are asking to make them more comfortable to use.
Running the game requires a 64-bit device with Android 8 or newer, Vulkan support, and game files from your own PC version of MDK.
