In an interview with Yahoo Japan, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi revealed that Capcom has already determined the series’ approximate development prospects and even outlined its potential finale. According to the developer, the conclusion of the story could happen within the next ten years.
Initially, the creators did not have a unified storyline development plan for Resident Evil: the story expanded with the release of each new game. The situation began to change during the development of the Resident Evil 2 remake, released in 2019. At that point, Capcom started shaping a ten-year brand development concept, which Takeuchi admitted was one of the most challenging tasks.
The producer also hinted that the release sequence of the remakes might contain clues about the future of the series and its anticipated conclusion.
The series’ story was not planned from the very beginning—it expanded with each new game. When we were planning RE:2 and creating a ten-year brand development concept, that proved to be the hardest part of the work. I think if you play through all the games, you will understand the meaning behind the release order of the remakes.
According to him, the release of Resident Evil Requiem in 2026 marked a kind of conclusion to the franchise’s first ten-year phase.
With the release of Requiem this year, I feel that the first ten years have come to an end. That is why I believe the climax will arrive within the next ten years.
At the same time, Takeuchi did not reveal exactly how many games Capcom plans to release before the finale. He only clarified that it involves more than one project: several new installments await players. Details are currently being kept secret, as premature disclosure of the plans could spoil the experience of future releases.
