“Heroes” in the palm of your hand: Heroes of Might and Magic V ported to Android along with two expansions

Enthusiasts continue porting iconic games to smartphones.

A developer going by the handle phys-winner has introduced an unofficial Android port of Heroes of Might and Magic V. The project supports the base game as well as the “Hammers of Fate” and “Tribes of the East” expansions, with the ability to switch between them via a shared launcher.

The controls have been adapted for touchscreens: gestures can be used to pan, rotate, and zoom the map; taps allow issuing orders, splitting troops, and transferring artifacts; and holding a finger brings up tooltips. Players can also customize the interface scale, resolution, and camera sensitivity.

In addition, the author claims multiplayer support. To play together, participants must connect to the same local network and use matching versions of the game and its expansions.

Running the game requires Android 8.0 or newer, a 64-bit ARM processor, and OpenGL ES 3.2 support. Files from a legally owned copy of the game are also required. So far, compatibility has been confirmed with HoMM V version 1.6, “Hammers of Fate” 2.1, and “Tribes of the East” 3.1.
