Playdigious has announced a mobile version of Darkest Dungeon II — the grim roguelike from Red Hook Studios will be released on Android and iOS in 2027. Along with the announcement, the publisher revealed the first teaser and confirmed that the port will feature the full campaign and the additional Kingdoms mode:
“The road to the Mountain is long and full of horrors, and in 2027, it leads right to your phone! Assemble your party, outfit your stagecoach, and set off across the decaying landscape on a final, desperate gasp to avert the apocalypse. The greatest dangers, however, may come from within…”
In the main campaign of Darkest Dungeon II, a party of four heroes sets out in a stagecoach across a collapsing world toward the ominous Mountain to try and stop the apocalypse. Along the way, players must choose routes, manage supplies, and engage in turn-based combat. The stress endured affects the heroes’ behavior, and relationships between them can develop into either camaraderie or bitter resentment, significantly complicating battles.
In the standalone Kingdoms mode, players must protect the realm from invasion, reinforce a network of safe havens, and manage multiple rosters of heroes.
Now the main challenge for the developers is to beat the modding enthusiasts to the punch, who have recently been actively porting everything they can get their hands on to smartphones. The first Darkest Dungeon was officially released on mobile devices only for iPad back in 2017, but it recently also received an unofficial Android port.
