“Street Fighter” can no longer take a punch: Street Fighter box office plummets nearly tenfold by its third weekend

The film adaptation is rapidly losing viewers, while Capcom reports success.

Over its third weekend, “Street Fighter” grossed around $3.2 million in the US and Canada—62.7% less than the previous week. The film dropped to fifth place, and the theater count was cut by 750 to 2,825.

The adaptation's total box office reached $53 million domestically and $91.9 million worldwide, which looks disastrous against an $82 million production budget excluding marketing costs.

Against the backdrop of such results, Capcom issued a press release on November 2 touting the film's success. The company noted that during its debut week from October 16 to 22, “Street Fighter” ranked first at the US box office, and emphasized that the adaptation helps boost the franchise's awareness and value.

Given the current box office figures, the filmmakers, who seemingly counted on an entire trilogy, really have to hope now that it will attract new buyers for games and merchandise, while also performing well on streaming services.
