PlayStation 6 development is on schedule, Sony assured

The company also noted that PlayStation 5 sales continue to decline.

Sony CFO Lin Tao confirmed that the development of PlayStation 6 is progressing according to the initial schedule.

Tao also noted that, despite rising costs of RAM and flash memory, Sony has sufficient necessary components for the next fiscal year starting in April 2027. During this period, the company intends to make significant progress in preparing the new console.

The cost of PlayStation 6 remains one of the main questions. According to recent rumors, RAM and the NAND drive alone for the console could cost Sony over $680. Taking other components into account, the device’s manufacturing cost could potentially exceed $1,000.

However, other unconfirmed reports indicate that PS6 components may turn out to be about $200 cheaper than those of Microsoft’s console in development, Project Helix. Nonetheless, the next generation of gaming systems risks becoming the most expensive in industry history.
