The number of active PlayStation users reached a record 127 million, although sales of the consoles themselves are falling

Separately, Sony confirmed that the development of the next-generation console is on schedule.

Sony reported a record number of active PlayStation users. At the end of September 2026, the monthly audience of PS4 and PS5 reached 127 million accounts, which is 7% more compared to the same period last year.

The company presented this data on November 5 as part of its financial report for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. According to GameBiz, between April and September, the total time players spent playing games also increased by 4% year-over-year. Sony noted that audience engagement continues to grow steadily compared to the first quarter.

The Game & Network Services (G&NS) division, responsible for the company’s gaming business, demonstrated positive dynamics: revenue increased by 9%, and operating profit surged by 83% compared to last year. Among the factors that positively impacted financial results, Sony specifically highlighted Marvel’s Wolverine.

Sales of the PS5 consoles themselves are gradually declining. The company expects this trend to continue as the device progresses through its life cycle. Instead of further ramping up hardware sales, Sony intends to focus on increasing the engagement of the existing audience. Currently, the company is targeting approximately 100 million PS5s sold and 127 million active PlayStation accounts.
