Lionsgate has officially put a feature-length animated prequel to “John Wick” into production. Keanu Reeves will once again play the famous hitman, though this time he will voice his character. The actor will also serve as a producer alongside the main franchise director Chad Stahelski.
The film will focus on that very “impossible task” mentioned back in the first installment. To leave his criminal past behind and begin a new life with Helen, John Wick had to eliminate all of his rivals in a single night.

The prequel was announced at CinemaCon in April 2025. Shannon Tindle, who directed “Ultraman: Rising” and worked on “Kubo and the Two Strings”, remains attached as the director. The screenplay was written by Ryan and Kaz Firpo, best known for “Eternals”. They replaced Vanessa Taylor, who worked on “The Shape of Water”.
