The Sims 4 developers explore gender-neutral pronouns to ensure inclusivity

Fans of the life simulation game The Sims 4 have long been asking the developers to add pronouns to the game, which are needed for the representation of non-binary and transgender individuals

Fans of The Sims 4 are asking to add gender-neutral pronouns (they/them) to the game. More than 20 thousand people have signed the inclusivity petition.

The developers responded and recalled that back in May they announced their intention to create non-binary language in The Sims (i.e., move away from “he / she”).

Since then, they have explored “global language characteristics” (the linguistic side of the matter, as the game is translated into several languages and they need to understand how to handle pronouns in each of them) and collected data on areas where changes may be required (i.e., which content will need reworking).

They promised to share details in January next year. No timeline for implementing pronouns into the game was provided.
