Jeff Fowler spoke about the future of “Sonic the Hedgehog 4”

The Sonic cinematic universe continues to expand. Following the success of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, director Jeff Fowler shared the first details about the upcoming sequel.

The third Sonic film became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise's history, earning over $420 million, and received acclaim from both audiences and critics. Paramount intends to expand the successful cinematic universe, and in an interview with Screenrant timed to coincide with the film's digital release on January 21, director and “father” of the franchise Jeff Fowler discussed what to expect from the continuation.

He confirmed that the central characters of the new story will be Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, whose appearances audiences might have spotted in the post-credits scenes. While the final concept for the fourth film has not yet taken shape, Fowler noted that the team had planned from the outset how these characters could be incorporated into the plot, as the director prefers to craft such scenes with a clear vision of the characters' future.

When asked who might voice Amy Rose, Fowler replied that he is not ready to make a choice just yet and wants to wait to see the fans' reaction. He also emphasized that the casting will depend on the script and the needs of the story. Given her role in the games, where Amy harbored feelings for Sonic, audiences can anticipate a romantic storyline.

As for Jim Carrey's return, the director admitted there is currently no definitive answer. At the moment, Fowler is enjoying a brief respite following the movie's release, but is already eager to return to work on the sequel.

The premiere of “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” is scheduled for March 19, 2027. You can check out our review of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” via the link.
