Paramount Pictures studio has confirmed that the fourth installment in the film series about the iconic blue hedgehog Sonic will be released in theaters on March 19, 2027. This announcement came a few weeks after the release of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, which became a box office hit and grossed over $420 million worldwide. The third part received high praise from critics and audiences, earning 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
There are no plot details for the new film yet, but fans are actively discussing the post-credits and mid-credits scenes of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. Theories include time travel and the appearance of iconic characters such as Metal Sonic and Amy Rose.
The franchise, which started with the success of the first film in 2020, continues to gain momentum. In addition to the feature films, in 2024 the Sonic universe expanded with the Knuckles series, starring Idris Elba as the voice of the titular character. The trilogy's total box office gross has surpassed $1 billion, making it one of the most successful video game adaptations. Paramount plans to continue expanding the franchise.
