Recently, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford spoke with GamesRadar+ during Gamescom 2025.

He talked about how progress in "hardware" and technology finally matches the ambitions of the creators:

«Speaking of the evolution of Borderlands 4, I think we've finally reached a point where the technology and "hardware" match the ambitions of our game.

We have always created Borderlands with the idea that there should be a wide, open world. However, in reality, we had to, so to speak, create narrow seams and connect them with loading so that the world was large enough and matched our ambitions».

However, in the case of Borderlands 4, everything will be smooth (seamless world): «Loading is gone, and the world has become more open than ever before».

And also the game will have a double jump:

«We wanted to increase mobility and improve ways to move around. Therefore, we studied things like calling a vehicle that can rush through the entire environment and cover miles without loading.

Or doing ridiculous things....you know, I would say that Borderlands exists between two incompatible things, surrealism and realism... now we live in a world between reality and fantasy, even in terms of movements.

We can do a double jump. What's the point? Where, according to the laws of physics, can I jump into the air, and then, while in the air, jump again? It's completely pointless. However, in a video game, it's a lot of fun!».
