Owlcat Games has released a new development diary for Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy. The team decided to highlight the differences between the new product and the previous franchise project — Rogue Trader.

The original Dark Heresy is "one of the most iconic tabletop role-playing systems in the Warhammer 40,000 universe." Players take on the role of acolytes: "We are mortal servants of the Inquisition in a sector where heresy is growing right under our feet, and the light of the Emperor has faded."

The world of Dark Heresy will be different from what was shown in Rogue Trader: "While the lavishly dressed and powerful Free Traders bravely go to meet the unknown, the acolytes of the Inquisition remain in the shadows. They are deprived of glory and their name will be forgotten after death. They are not waiting for wealth, gilded ships do not carry their coats of arms, and xenos relics do not fill their vaults. The world of Dark Heresy is decaying, it is full of fear, lies and madness. And we in it are insignificant servants of the Inquisition inside a huge, dead empire, who are tasked with hunting heretics, xenos, demons and even each other."

The game will take place in the "inglorious Calixis Sector, located in the Obscurus segmentum. The main plot will take place in the Scintilla system."

The combat system is based on the combat system from Rogue Trader, but the authors promise a complete rework of classes, new mechanics that will "make the combat system feel original and exciting."

In Dark Heresy, players will have to conduct detective investigations: "In this interactive mini-game, you will be able to solve crimes, analyze evidence and draw conclusions. But remember, your decisions will have consequences!"
