"It" is back. The prequel series will not only reveal Pennywise's backstory, but also bring to the screen new stories from Derry's past, previously only mentioned in passing.

HBO has officially announced the premiere date for the series "It: Welcome to Derry" — a prequel to the film adaptations of Stephen King's "It". The show will premiere on October 26, 2025 and will consist of nine episodes, which will be released weekly on HBO and the Max service.

Bill Skarsgård will reprise the main role, returning to the image of Pennywise. The cast also includes Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Rimar and others.

The plot unfolds 27 years before the events of the films "It" (2017) and "It 2" (2019). The first season covers 1962, when catastrophic events begin to occur in the city. It is based on interludes from King's novel, including the tragedy in "Black Spot", the mass murder of the Bradley gang, and the explosion at the Kitchener steel mill.

The series was created by Andrés and Barbara Muschietti, who previously worked on feature films. Andy directed several episodes personally. Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane became showrunners. In addition to acting, Skarsgård also serves as an executive producer along with David Coatsworth, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee and Dan Lin.

According to Andy Muschietti, the series "expands the mythology" established in previous films, and "gives voice to the victims whose stories were only mentioned in the book." Special attention is promised to be paid to the atmosphere of fear and the social background of horror associated with racial and cultural conflicts of the era.
