President of Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo, said in an interview that the playthrough can take over 70 hours, and the game is filled with events so that the journey does not feel protracted.
Kondo noted that even he himself took more than 70 hours to complete all the tasks:
"It took that much time for me and other employees, even though we knew the content of the game perfectly well (laughs)."
According to him, the duration increased for two reasons. The first is the addition of voice acting to story scenes and events, which increases the time by at least 10 hours if you don't skip the lines. The second is the transition to full 3D, which makes exploring the area take longer. However, there is a fast travel system, but the more spacious environment makes the journey more realistic.
Kondo emphasized that despite the increased runtime, there is no emptiness in the game — it is saturated with puzzles, exploration, and mechanics that were also in the original. In his opinion, the remake will give fans nostalgia, and new players will have a fresh experience, unusual for modern JRPGs.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter will be released on September 19, 2025, on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS5. An Upgrade Pack for Switch 2 will be available for $1.
