Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG - Wizards of the Coast's Dream
John Height, president of Wizards of the Coast, admitted that he dreams of a Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG. At the same time, he noted that the traditional MMO model is outdated, and before launching the game, it is necessary to carefully consider the concept and implementation steps.
In an interview, Height stated that Blizzard's classic approach to MMOs is no longer relevant. He added that creating a D&D MMORPG would require a consistent approach:
"First crawl, then walk, then run. We need to make sure we have the talent, technology, and plans for the project, but of course, there's a fire in my eyes - I want it to happen."
The company president clarified that he always shares this idea with the team, but realizes that the online gaming market is extremely competitive. The new MMORPG will have to compete with "eternal" hits like Fortnite, Minecraft and World of Warcraft.
The main strength of Dungeons & Dragons may be flexibility. Wizards of the Coast needs to create a well-thought-out world and an exciting storyline, adapt the project to different game styles and distribution models in order to offer something truly innovative.
Height added:
"What will MMO be like in five or ten years? Where will players go after battle royales? It's important whether we can connect their gameplay ideas with our worlds and brands."
