Steam has a points system that awards points for purchases in the store. Players can purchase virtual rewards with them and then give them to other users, for example, for a good review or comment.
Some unscrupulous users use various tricks to convince others to give them points. Recently, one enterprising user took advantage of the interest in Hollow Knight Silksong and promised a mega-giveaway, supposedly giving away 2000 copies.
In his post, he was "keeping count of the remaining games" for the giveaway and received thousands of awards.
However, it turned out to be a fraudulent scheme. Users like AEsir began to sound the alarm and contacted Valve — they achieved the removal of the publication:
"That giveaway dude just got banned and all points revoked, haha.
Yesterday I contacted Steam support and guys we have news. Just got a reply:
"We have reviewed the report of fraudulent activity in the Silksong discussion thread. The discussion has been closed and the offending account has been sanctioned in accordance with our rules.
In addition, we have reversed the Steam Points sent to this user by you. The returned points are now available to you in your Steam Points balance"».
