Shinpei Nagai responded to fans' concerns and urged them not to blame JC Staff studio.
The director of the third season of "One-Punch Man", Shinpei Nagai, in a recent communication with fans, frankly admitted that the new season is "unlikely to reach the level of the first" - and asked the audience not to unleash a wave of negativity on JC Staff studio.
The reason for Nagai's reaction was a fresh teaser that caused a wave of criticism. Some fans were disappointed with the animation and direction, despite the fact that no episodes have been released yet. On social networks, the project has already been dubbed a "failure", and the studio is called "incapable" of providing a worthy continuation of the first season from Madhouse.
In a series of posts on the X platform, the director reported that work on the season is nearing completion - there are "only four storyboards" left. He promised that there would be no delays. But in response to a comment from one of the viewers, who expressed hope for progress compared to the second season, Nagai made a detailed comment:
"No, I approached this project with the determination and mindset to complete the work that you all value so much. Perhaps the result will not please you - or even anger you. But someone has to take on this task. I am ready and determined. It is unlikely to be at the level of the first season. But this anime has the perseverance and ingenuity of the entire team. Please, at least accept that.
There are many studios in the industry now that receive generous funding from large corporations. And most of the talent goes there. But, as I said, I want to support JC Staff - a studio that tries to improve working conditions and nurture its employees. Please stop the harassment and constant questions that I cannot answer due to non-disclosure agreements. Please, I beg you".
The first season of "One-Punch Man" from Madhouse became a hit thanks to its outstanding animation, pace and Saitama's charisma. The second season, already from JC Staff, was met with a more restrained reception - it was criticized for editing, visual quality and sluggish dynamics. The third one has not yet been released, but is already facing increased attention and pressure from fans.
The premiere of the third season is scheduled for October 5, 2025.
